Process safety support was provided for the Bioagra Ethanol Production Plant project carried out in cooperation with Prochem.
The project was related to an industrial ethanol production facility located in Goświnowice, near Nysa, representing one of the key bioethanol production assets in Poland. The installation is associated with the production of ethanol from corn grain and includes process systems typical for large-scale bioethanol manufacturing, such as raw material handling, fermentation, distillation, dehydration, storage and auxiliary process infrastructure.
The scope of work included a structured HAZOP study and process safety review for selected process areas and systems. The study focused on the identification of credible process deviations, their causes and potential consequences, as well as the review of existing and proposed safeguards.
Particular attention was given to hazards associated with ethanol production, flammable atmospheres, process containment, temperature and pressure deviations, storage and transfer operations, utilities and interfaces between process units. The objective of the study was to support safe design, reliable operation and effective risk reduction for the installation.
This project demonstrates experience in process safety support for the biofuels and renewable fuels sector, where chemical process hazards, flammable materials and large-scale industrial operation require a practical and structured approach to HAZOP.
